Assets

An asset is a top-level physical object you own — a bicycle, a camera body, a coffee grinder. It is the root of your component hierarchy and holds the full pedigree of everything attached to it.

Creating an asset

  1. Open the Assets page and choose Add Asset.
  2. Enter a name, and optionally a serial number, purchase date, and category.
  3. Save — your asset appears in the list and on the dashboard.

Asset details

Selecting an asset opens its detail view, where you can:

  • See every component currently installed on the asset.
  • Review the asset timeline — a chronological record of part swaps, services, and configuration changes.
  • Track the total cost of ownership built up from logged service events.

Categories

Categories group similar assets together (for example, Bicycle or Camera) and make the dashboard easier to scan. You can manage the available categories from Settings.

Editing and retiring

You can edit an asset's details at any time. When you no longer own an asset, you can mark it as sold — its record and full history are preserved so the pedigree stays intact.

Next: attach and move components.
